10 Children’s Music Albums You Won’t Get Tired of Hearing

Happy smiling boy learning to play the acoustic guitar

Do you ever get that one children’s song stuck in your head for what feels like forever? (Sometimes it’s actually days.) It’s the ultimate test of your patience as a parent. Can you handle hearing the same song on repeat… again and again?

With all the nursery rhymes and stories you end up re-reading, it can start to drive you a bit crazy. But there are some albums and songs that are easier to listen to on repeat than others! I asked my friends for their top “non-traditional” children’s albums that won’t drive you nuts.

From car rides to lazy weekend mornings or those extra days at home after school’s out, it might be time to refresh your kid’s music playlist. Sure, there are plenty of versions of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” but what about something more exciting? Whether you’re looking for classic tunes with a modern twist or a new lullaby album with clever lyrics for all ages, we’ve got you covered. Check out these family-friendly album recommendations that parents love and swear by!

1. Basho and Friends

I first discovered Basho and Friends through a toddler Pandora station, and another friend told me that whenever their songs play, the whole family joins in for a sing-along. The album features a mix of original songs and fresh, funky takes on classic tunes that both young kids (and you!) will enjoy. It’s hands down the best version of “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” I’ve ever heard— and trust me, I’ve heard quite a few!

2. Rockabye Baby!

These albums are a far cry from the classic children’s songs you remember. They’re designed to introduce both you and your little one to the music of some of your favorite artists! Imagine soothing lullabies set to the tunes of The Beach Boys, Queen, The Beatles, Justin Timberlake, Journey, and more. If you’re a fan of the band, there’s probably a Rockabye Baby! album that’s perfect for you.

Some of these albums are also pretty funny when you think about them. Who would’ve imagined that Kanye’s “Gold Digger” could turn into a sweet lullaby for bedtime?

3. They Might Be Giants

Kids who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s (now raising their own little ones) will remember They Might Be Giants for their fun and quirky tunes. It turns out they’ve got some fantastic children’s music too! Here Comes the ABCs is not only educational but also packed with catchy lyrics and hooks that you won’t mind playing on repeat. It’s perfect for some quality family time during car rides!

4. Banjos in Space

Full disclosure: this album comes from my brother, Lucas. BUT, in true sister fashion, I wouldn’t include it on this list if it didn’t truly deserve a spot (I’ve been his toughest critic for over 30 years!). In fact, my toddler gives the real stamp of approval. Every morning, he wakes up and strums his shirt like a banjo to let me know he wants to hear this album.

It’s a mix of comedy, banjo music, Star Wars references, local TV, and evil monkeys—so, yeah, kids will absolutely love it. My little one regularly asks for the title track at bedtime!

One of my favorites: Even when my kid isn’t around, I’ll still play “I Don’t Want to Live on the Moon” (you might remember it from Sesame Street). This version is incredibly sweet. Well done, bro!

5. The Raging Idiots

When a friend first recommended this album, I thought they were joking. (The name didn’t exactly scream “kid-friendly,” ha!) But no joke, that’s actually the name! The album is by The Raging Kidiots, so there’s that. With twelve catchy tracks, it’s geared more toward older kids, though my toddler will dance to anything with a good beat, so don’t count it out for younger kids either!

6. Kid’s Bop

You’ve seen their commercials for ages, and now that you’re a parent, the songs aren’t half-bad! Kidz Bop takes today’s top 40 hits and has kids perform them. They’ve covered everyone—from rock stars to the latest pop releases. Of course, there are some lyric changes, but overall, the songs are catchy and fun. You’ll enjoy singing along in the car without having to quickly change the station when those tricky lyrics pop up!

7. Sugar Free All Stars

If you’ve been around kids for any length of time, you’ve definitely heard of Sugar Free All Stars. They’ve got plenty of albums to choose from, all filled with songs about kids’ favorite things like “Monster Truck,” “My Dog Pete,” and “Petting Zoo.” Chances are, both you and your little ones will love them!

8. Little Seed: Songs for Children by Woody Guthrie

Guthrie’s folk songs are playful and unique, while Elizabeth Mitchell’s voice is soothing and beautiful. It’s the perfect combination for when you have kids’ albums on repeat all day long!

9. Twinkle Twinkle Little Rockstar

While Rockabye Baby! leans more toward pop, these children’s music albums dive deep into rock vibes. Want your kids to get into Metallica and Sublime? These albums are a great way to introduce them. They also have some pop albums (like Adele and Mumford & Sons), but if rock is your thing, these albums are perfect—for you… I mean, your kids! 🙂

10. The Hero in You by Ellis Paul

A fantastic way to introduce kids to influential figures in history. From Georgia O’Keeffe to Rachel Carson, Rosa Parks, Thomas Edison, and more, these songs highlight some real-life American heroes that both kids (and you!) will learn about. Plus, there’s a book that accompanies it!
